Since graduating from the University of North Carolina Wilmington in May, Victoria Levy has had her eyes set on turning professional.
But she stayed an amateur till July to represent Switzerland in the July 7-11 European Amateur Team Championships before making her dream come true.
“It was always in the plan that I was going to turn pro after I graduated college,” she said. “After the European Team Championships, it was, okay, chapter’s closed. Let’s move on and let’s go.
“It was always part of the schedule. But yeah, just the mid-season timing was because I wanted to play European Teams. I used to travel always with a team, but now I travel with other Swiss players, so that hasn’t changed much. I really like it. It’s going great.”
After a T-8 finish at the Ladies German Challenge and a career-best T-5 finish in challenging conditions in Denmark at the CSK Steel Women’s Open, Levy’s career has gotten off to a red-hot start.
Prior to last week’s Hauts de France Open, the 23-year-old had made the cut in all eight of the LET Access Series (LETAS) events she has entered this season. She is aiming to restart her hot streak on a course she knows well, just a 15-minute drive away from her house.
“I used to play it a lot during junior golf, like Under-12s,” she said. “And then, I haven’t played it that much ever since. But since it’s so close, it’s very convenient to come around and have a round.
“My dad’s side of the family, they’re all big golf fans. So I know my grandma’s coming, so that’s going to be nice.”
About how she started playing golf, Levy said: “My dad put us into it. Me and my sisters. But at first I was doing lots of other sports. I really liked golf, but I was doing a lot of different things.
“I feel like because you play so much you learn so much all the time and it’s like go, go, go, which is kind of addictive. And it’s really nice.”
As her mother hails from Chile, Levy also has an appreciation for Joaquin Niemann. “It’s hard not to mention Tiger Woods, but I like Joaquin Niemann,” she said. “I like him a lot because he’s from Chile. My mom’s from Chile. So yeah, I listen to a lot of interviews of him, and he’s very inspiring.”
