Three years from now, Sophie Bert wants to be playing on the LPGA Tour.
The Belgian 23-year-old LET Access Series (LETAS) rookie has no qualms about where she wants to be and has the game to do so.
Bert has recorded three successive top-20 finishes on the LETAS as she chases her maiden win at this week’s Hauts de France Open.
“I would say I’m in the figuring out phase,” she said. “Right now, I’m having a lot more fun than I did in the beginning of my career. This week is awesome because I have one of my best friends here with me, which is really cool.
“It’s nice to play close to home and have some family and friends come over the weekend. Eventually, I do want to be on the LPGA, but for now I just want to learn and see how I can be a better golfer and be a better person as well.”
Fresh off graduating from Kansas State University, where she played Division 1 college golf, Bert is enjoying her rookie year on Tour.
“It’s been interesting,” she said. “I’ve been learning a lot. It’s completely different from like, college golf and everything. So it’s really cool finding that out. It’s really cool experience.
“When I was an amateur, I was playing more freely. Like, there was a lot less stress than it is now. So I’m trying to find the same things I was doing back then, but it’s coming back slowly. So it’s fun figuring that out here.”
Bert made the most of an exemption into July’s Hulencourt Women’s Open on the LET by making the cut and recording a T-54 finish on home soil.
About how she got into golf, she added: “I got into golf because of my dad, so we started playing a bunch of different sports, and golf was my favorite because it was very different from all the other ones.
“There’s a lot of things that you can’t do (as a professional), like social things with your friends, like they’re going to holidays and stuff like that, and you’re like, I can’t.
“I have to stay back up to practice and ready for the next competition. So those are like the fun things in life, but you gotta give some of those up which I don’t mind doing at all.
“Three years from now, I want to be on the LPGA.”
