With five events to play, Hulda Gestsdottir is on the bubble in seventh place on the LET Access Series (LETAS) Order of Merit standings.
The Icelandic golfer, who won on her fourth professional start at June’s Czech Ladies Challenge, is eager to finish the season strong to secure her LET card for the 2027 season.
“So far, I’m very pleased with my performance,” she said. “If you would have offered me to be in the seventh position before the last five tournaments, I would have taken taken it.
“I would say there’s pressure, but I think just play my game and do my best, and if that’s enough, that’s great. If not, then figure it out from there.
“Golf is very up and down, so I try to just (approach) each tournament like I have a shot. It doesn’t matter how I played last tournament. Golf is very different depending on the course, weather and just how you woke up that morning.”
After missing the cut back-to-back in England and Ireland, Gestsdottir has bounced back with four consecutive made cuts in her last four tournaments including a top five finish in Slovakia.
“Right now, I think my game is in a very good place,” she said. “I’m very looking forward to the final five events, including this one. Yeah, driver’s feeling good, my irons and putting is getting there.
“During the break, I played (LPGA) Q-School in the US. It was very good experience. Yeah, I had lots of fun. The weather was kind of tricky, raining and windy. So hoping that it stays dry this week.”
For her win in Czechia and her top-five result in Slovakia, Gestsdottir had the added advantage of having her father caddying for her.
“The next two events in Spain and in Portugal, my dad’s going to be a caddie. So I’m looking forward to see if he’s my lucky charm. He’s only been to two events this year, but yeah, I’m hoping to get him to a few of the final ones.”
While Gestsdottir was born in Iceland, she has a home base in Spain where she resides for majority of the year.
“I try to go back to Iceland during the summer because that’s my favourite place in the world during the summer,” she said. “But fall, winter, spring can be kind of tricky over there with weather.
“I spend a lot of time at Las Colinas, which is one hour south of Alicante. So it’ll be nice spending some time there between the tournaments during this stretch and the final stretch.”
She has been adjusting well to life as a professional golfer during her rookie season, adding: “I’ve learnt to travel. I feel like more of a travel agent for myself. I also got to learn other things about myself, like when I want to warm up, which was different during my college years. It’s kind of just knowing what works best for me,”
While Gestsdottir has set herself the a target of reaching the LET next year, she has loftier goals for the future.
“Five years from now, I would love to be playing on the LPGA,” she said. “But I would be very excited to play on the LET as well. I think it’s very exciting how many countries they get to play in, and the events look to be very well organised.
“So, yeah, I’m very looking forward to playing on the LET or LPGA. That would be the dream.”
